Suppose you're going backpacking or hiking in a remote area. In that case, it's a good idea to have a paracord, some small tools, an emergency sleeping bag, and a tarp in a survival kit. Most people who get lost die quickly from exposure, and those simple items can save your life.
If you have the opportunity, it's also not a bad idea to go out in the woods and practice building this type of natural shelter or debris hut on your own. Practice makes perfect. If you can construct a DIY bushcraft shelter like this from fallen trees and other forest debris, you've just upped your odds of survival substantially.
