Hunters Capture Bizarre Howling Sound Echoing Through Ontario Woods

Whether you think it's Bigfoot or a moose, we can all agree something here doesn't sound right.

When Ontario hunter Gino Meekis hit the woods Oct. 3, 2019, he was hoping to bag a few ruffed grouse with his wife and his grandson.

While every hunt presents the possibility of seeing some big-game animals walking around or making some noise, no one could ever foresee something like this happening.

As you're about to hear for yourself, these loud sounds are hard to explain. In fact, even biologists are supposedly having a hard time determining what was making the sounds in this video.

Watch the videos below:

"(I've never) heard anything like this before," Meekis told CTVNews.ca in an interview. "It was more bass-y than anything I've heard scream before."

The group was walking a trail back to their car along the Vermilion River near Sioux Lookout when they first started hearing the strange howling sounds.

At first, Meekis considered the possibility of it being a moose or a bear, but said it sounded too deep.

"I started thinking of all the animals in the area—I'd heard during my life—and it didn't match," he said. "At first I wasn't scared because it sounded kind of far from where we were. It sounded like it was a kilometer away. So if it started coming, (we had) enough time to get out of there."

Reactions among the trio were mixed, however, as Meekis' grandson started imitating the sounds for fun, but his wife was starting to get scared.

Eventually, she had enough and hurried back toward the car with the grandson.

"We could hear it moving," Meekis said. "It sounded kind of heavy."

Although biologists attempted to make identify the sound, couldn't come to a confident determination, either, based on Meekis' footage.

"Our biologists say it could be a larger mammal—for example, a wolf—but because of a considerable distance from the recorder, there is no way to be certain," Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry spokesperson Jolanta Kowalski told CTVNews.ca.

Most of the comments on Meekis' YouTube video point to Bigfoot or Sasquatch, but chances are it was a larger mammal, likely in some kind of pain.

However, as Meekis said in his interview, there's no way to ever know for sure what it was they heard that day.
