Casey Lavere is learning how to fly fish for cutthroat and lake trout. He's on a brilliant blue-green lake with a friend catching some beauties.
HUSHIN's Casey Lavere is fishing an unnamed lake with his friend Andrew from The Fly Dudes, in an attempt to up his fly fishing game.
It's a frigid day in early January, but as they say, any day you get to go fishing is a good day. The guys are fishing for lake trout and cutthroat trout.
The fishing isn't exactly furious, as they only catch four fish and hook six all day. But, the lake looks fantastic with clear blue-green water, and the cutthroat are absolutely gorgeous. These beautiful silver fish are chunky and healthy.
Andrew kindly takes a few seconds to explain what they're using as Lavere shows the fly pattern.
"It's a balanced cisco pattern," he says. "All these cisco at this lake, they come in early January/late December to spawn, and all these big cutthroat and lake trout move out of the deep water to eat them."
