It's that time of the year again. Your line has been beaten from countless fish, sat out in the elements, and in the North dried out in the winter cold. Time to reline that spool with fresh line. With all the options out there, which one is right for you? Check the video below to get a rundown on your line choices.
So the takeaways for each type of the big three of fishing lines. From my bias' as mostly a bass angler who part times it with some Lake Michigan salmon fishing.
Monofilament: This is my go to line type for most of my fishing. When fishing locator baits in some rocky bottom Michigan lakes, mono is the way to go. The stretch is not a problem when you are reeling a crankbait or a spinnerbait searching for bass. When trolling for salmon I also stick to mono fishing line. It's cheap and unlike braid it sinks.
Braid: I honestly don't use it anymore. I have tried it with success for top water baits. However, that's quite the niche to justify the expense. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. If you love to frog in the pads line up with braid. Or if you are fishing with heavy baits for heavy fish, braid is perfect.
Fluorocarbon: I like to think of this as the ninja of fishing line. When I'm finesse fishing or rigging up live bait I use fluorocarbon. Amateur tip I also use it as a leader on my fly line.
