"This was stupid, but it actually works!"
Every angler has tried attaching something stupid to the end of their line at one point or another. Sometimes it is because of a lack of bait. Other times it is out of boredom. In any case, if you are like me, those experiments usually do not pay off with a big fish catch. It is more just a way to pass the time when the bite is slow.
However, some anglers have had these experiments pay off in a big way and that is the case with today's video. YouTuber Ty PigPatrol decides to try using Lego mini figures as bait. He zip-ties the classic toy to a crappie jig and starts working them in a small pond.
To his surprise, it works much better than expected. He ends up catching a bass and a couple of extremely nice crappie while working the unusual lure. It is something you must see to believe.
Who would have thought Legos were good for something other than hurting the feet of parents everywhere? As these guys noted, I have had much worse days using some of the best fishing lures on the market. I would take these catches over nothing any day of the week. That catch of the crappie that got the figure lodged in its mouth was one of the funniest catches we have ever seen.
The thing that has us scratching our head is exactly what the fish saw in these Lego figures. They must be mistaking it for a minnow of some kind based on the white color of the figures. Attaching the jig does seem to give it a bit of an erratic action. We cannot imagine it was the shape and scent of the figure that drew all those bites.
Most interesting was the fact that the figures worked for both bass and crappie. Sometimes it pays off to just throw something totally different that the fish have never seen before. Excuse me while I go add some Lego figures to my tackle box!
