Do you ever think your dog is your soulmate? Some may refer to this as their heart dog but 'soulmate' is how I'll categorize this story about a special needs dog that is rescued.
Special needs dogs require the right pet parent. Someone that isn't just patient but also wants to invest time and energy into training to ensure the dog thrives in their environment.
Meet Nick and Emerson.
Nick was born deaf and saw a post on Facebook about Emerson, an adorable 12-week-old puppy, that is also deaf. So Nick went to meet this puppy and it was a match made in heaven.
New York Daily News reports,
"Emerson was put up for adoption after recovering from an infection known as canine parvovirus. His rescuers aren't sure though if Emerson was born deaf or lost his hearing as part of the illness."
So how do they communicate? Nick uses visual commands to train Emerson and immediately started teaching him sign language.
According to WABI TV5 News, being deaf doesn't seem to bother either of them. During the interview, Nick told the reporter,
"The bond that we have is awesome. We understand each other very well."

Emerson and his littermates Nash and Palmer were pulled from a high kill shelter in Florida by NFR Maine. Nick is our hero!
This sweet Labrador puppy with hearing difficulties had a rough start. Teaching Emerson sign language will give this dog the confidence he needs to have a typical puppy life!
This little pup is already learning so much! The New York Daily News also reports,
"Richelle Abbott, Abbott's mom, told Good Morning America that the two were using sign language and other signals to communicate. If Nick reaches up and shakes his ear lobe, Emerson will bark — it's so cute."
We're so grateful for all of Nick's Facebook posts and social media updates about their sweet story.
Nick Abbott's rescue puppy story is one of the most encouraging stories we've written about in a while! You cannot disagree that this has a real-life fairy tale ending.
