Viral Photo of Dog Waiting for Dead Owner Leads to Adoption

This is why the internet and social media is the best tool for dogs that need homes. The exposure, engagement, shares and overall momentum of stories like these end in adoptions. These animals that need forever homes are waiting and relying on us to get their story shared.

Let's start with the good news and the update since this photo first posted. Moose's story went viral and now he's adopted!

The Facebook post states that Moose sat patiently next to his dad's bed after he passed with a broken heart:

"While at our rescue, Moose made lots of friends with the volunteers. We were won over by his happy personality and his love for life. We were all rooting for Moose to find his perfect home. And then one day, his "dad" discovered him and they fell in love. Moose finally had a loving home of his own. The future seemed pretty bright for Moose. But a year later tragedy struck and his dad passed away, leaving Moose in need of a home once again. Eleventh Hour Rescue's adoption policy is that if an adopter cannot keep one of our dogs for any reason, the dog must come back to us, and so Moose did just that. No matter how crowded we are, we always make room for one of our own. One of our mottoes is "once an Eleventh Hour dog, always an Eleventh Hour dog."

The sad photo of Moose waiting for his dead owner to come home brought in adoption forms thankfully so he could be loved by another family.

The tear-jerking photo below was uploaded to Facebook by NorthStar Pet Rescue in Boonton, N.J. The nonprofit organization works with Eleventh Hour Rescue in Randolph, N.J.

The post was updated to reflect the good news!

Fox News interviewed NorthStar and reported that they have a special relationship with Eleventh Hour Rescue,

"Animal rescues often work cooperatively to help find homes for dogs in need and NorthStar Pet Rescue has a long and special relationship with Eleventh Hour Rescue. We shared his story and photo in hopes of finding a local foster or adopter for him. Due to the power of social media, his story and has now gone global."

We hope all stories like this are shared so more dogs get adopted!

The photo of the dad's hospital bed certainly pulled on heartstrings so the rescue organization painted the picture necessary to find Moose a new home!
