This eye-popping elk might have balled too hard during the rut. Just call him Popeye the elk, as in he popped his eye out of the socket.
Watching a mature jacked up bull is like no other feeling in the world. Even seeing that majestic animal resting is enough to have your heart skip out of your chest.
I've heard stories from hunters that have experienced bulls charging during the rut. It's the sort of things that will make your eyes pop out of your head.
What I haven't ever heard, or seen, is something like this.

In this case, it's the bull that has the eye-popping moment. For an unknown amount of time, this particular bull has been dealing with an eye literally popped out of its socket!
The footage was captured in Utah during the offseason. You see two bulls casually feeding on a scrubby hillside. That's when the surprise kicks in! The eye is obviously able to move and track normally. The bull doesn't even appear excessively bothered.
You have to wonder if his vision is altered at all.
There is no clear evidence of direct effect but one can only imagine what it might be like going day to day with that ... unusual feature. I'm not sure I would be able to function, all I can think about is vertigo!
