Family Moment of the Day: Great Gray Owl Chicks at Feeding Time

This great gray owl pair has a nest of chicks that are seriously hungry. Let's hope they can catch enough mice!

The great gray owl is one of the larger of the owl species living in the north and western parts of North America.

They can be identified by the large head that is round and doesn't show their ear tufts, and a black and white 'bowtie' on their chins. (You can see it on the male at about 0:05 seconds into the video).

It's easy to see in this video how they get a taste for mice early in life when the father of the pair brings one back for the brood.

Thanks to The World of Birds Facebook page for posting this great look at an owl family! (Did that little bugger eat the whole mouse by himself?! No wonder they get so big).

The smaller, but similar Barred owl is more brown and has darker eyes. These predators of the boreal forests are one of the most beautiful birds of prey we know. Getting to see one in the daylight would be cool enough, but watching a whole family clan is awesome.
