Smokey the Bear gets some slick new apparel to celebrate turning 75!
The bear with the easy-to-remember catchphrase: "Only you can prevent forest fires," has done more than just serve as a public service educational mascot for wildfire prevention for the U.S. Forest Service. Smokey the Bear has become a wildlife and nature icon that is now synonymous with camping and natural areas here in the United States.
First introduced in 1944, Smokey is celebrating his 75th birthday this year.
To celebrate that momentous occasion, Filson is introducing a bunch of new products featuring the iconic Smokey Bear likeness. These things are sure to become collectibles!
Camp Shirt
Filson has come up with multiple new shirt designs for both men and women featuring our favorite bear. Knowing how much Smokey's fans love the outdoors, they've introduced short sleeve t-shirts, a long sleeve shirt and a camp shirt appropriate for any camping weather. The camp shirt is a button shirt made of 5-ounce cotton and features multiple designs of Smokey in action.
T-Shirts
The two new short sleeve t-shirts feature two different colors, service green and faded black, and each feature has a design on both the front and back. The long sleeve comes in dark mushroom color and forest green and features two different designs. These should be perfect for those cooler mornings in camp while making breakfast. These range from $45-85.
Cap
This slick-looking cotton bull denim twill cap features the iconic Smokey logo on the front. The cap is adjustable via a leather back strap. It runs $36.
Pullover Hoodie
Filson has also designed two great-looking pullover hoodies. One in faded black is made of a 12-oz cotton/polyester blend that should be great for cold nights around the campfire. The other hoodie is made of 15.3-oz cotton fleece and comes in dark mushroom color. Both have unique graphics of Smokey to celebrate "75 years of vigilance." You're looking at $175-95 for the hoodie.
Boxer Shorts
For the outdoorsman that has everything else, Filson made these 100% brushed cotton twill boxers with Smokey's logo on them in a root color. They're $45, but probably still worth it.
Blanket
Because sometimes you need more than just a carefully tended campfire to keep warm. This is 82 percent wool, 18 percent cotton blanket should do the trick quite nicely and it comes with a classic image of Smokey emblazoned on it. It's going to run $375, but it seems like it'll last through generations of use.
Knit Beanie
Now you can be as warm as a bear with this acrylic knit beanie that features a classic Smokey design for a frosty morning on the hiking trails. It's $50 for this hat.
Other collectibles
Filson is really going all-out with their Smokey the Bear anniversary gear. They're also offering a 32-ounce, wide-mouth water bottle perfect for hiking, a red wing coffee mug, an enamel pin set, patch and sticker sheet. $10-45
These new Filson products are a good way to spread the message that "Only you can prevent wildfires" and celebrate a great American conservation icon at the same time!
