Since the 1920s, classic Chevys have been a quintessential part of American folklore. From Chevy's decades-long battle with Ford as the "everyman's car" in the early 1900s to its revival in the 50's with the iconic Corvette, the brand has captured imaginations with its battle for the title of 'every man's car' against Ford and forward-thinking designs.
Let's revel in Chevrolet history with five beautiful classic Chevys that have captured our eye.
1959 Chevrolet El Camino
The El Camino was Chevy's answer to the Ford Ranchero, a new style of pickup/coupe hybrid style combining a two-door wagon with an open pickup holding 34 cubic feet. Its ride was punchy with lots of body roll and designed more for style than for utility. In a recent Autotrader listing, several refurbished ones remain up for sale at prices ranging from $57K to $80k.
1955 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup
The 1955 Cameo Pickup was a relatively short-lived affair, around for three years before being discontinued. Its body was a classic with its excess chrome, flat rear flanks, and full wheel covers that scream 'militaristic antique.'
1962 Chevrolet Corvette
The 1962 Chevrolet Corvette started production in June 1953 with the initial batch of 300 production vehicles featuring the Polo White and Sportsman Red color scheme.
1963 Chevrolet Corvette
The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette was one of the top dogs of its time, cruising to 60 in under six seconds with a top speed of 150 mph. Available body styles were a two-door convertible and a two door split-window coupe. Its design is legendary with hidden headlights, its trademark split back window, and a sharply contoured, extra-long front hood.
1969 Chevrolet K5 Blazer
The 1969 Chevrolet K5 Blazer was the automaker's foray into hybrid pickup/SUV design. At the time, all of the major automakers were moving towards an increased focus on multi-purpose vehicles with off-road capabilities. Later, design cues from the Blazer were used on other pickups, including the Dodge Ramcharger and the second-generation Ford Bronco.
