Science says forget about that McLaren F1 or Bugatti Veyron giving you a better chance of marrying the woman of your dreams.
According to a study published in Evolutional Psychological Science, surveying 375 undergraduate students, men who own expensive dream cars, like a McLaren F1, are seen as more sexually adventurous than practical drivers. So, James Bond is running on nice clothes and physical fitness, not his cool cars.
As part of the study, participants completed an anonymous online survey profiling two men, one of whom purchase a "reliable" new car and the other a used car with significant upgrades. Results showed that the used car upgrader was perceived as being more interested in sexual relationships, unlikely to be seen as a "lifetime partner."
Keep It Simple, Stupid
In turn, the practical car owner was seen as more likely to be a potential "life partner, parent, and provider." Who knew having a Jeep Cherokee or 2015 Ford Fusion would find you love?
"[The] display of goods featuring exaggerated sensory properties have reproductive strategies with higher mating effort and greater interest in short-term sexual relationships," said Daniel Kruger, co-author of the study.
"This contrasts with the notion that men's conspicuous resource displays are attractive to women because they reliably signal expected future resource investment in partners and especially in offspring," added co-author Jessica Kruger.
