Having a fluffy dog breed is like living with a teddy bear! All that fluffy fur means owners may spend longer cleaning their house and may need higher grooming budgets than shorter-haired dogs. Our doxie isn't fluffy, and I honestly enjoy a 'low maintenance' dog that doesn't need a lot of grooming!
The fluffiest dogs make up for their extra grooming care with their cuteness, and each breed on the below list has advantages that outweigh their regular grooming requirements.

Fluffy Dog Breeds
10. Pomeranian
The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that Pomeranians have a fluffy coat and fox-like smile. The small dog has a double coat and frill covering the chest. The extra-fluffy coat comes in at least two dozen colors but is most commonly recognized in orange and red. Poms' double coat requires regular brushing to maintain shine and fluffiness. It's recommended for owners to use a pin brush down to the skin, once a week, to prevent matting.
9. Poodle
Did you know Poodles come in three size varieties? There is a Standard, Miniature, and Toy. The breed is known for being exceptionally smart. Their "trademark" coat still does require maintenance by a groomer. So these dogs are fluffy, but their coats require a lot of maintenance; daily brushing is recommended!
8. Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise is a gentle, happy dog. The small dog's hair continuously grows and doesn't shed. So you always have a furry friend to cuddle with on cold days!
7. Old English Sheepdog
These sheepdogs make wonderful household pets, because they love staying at home, and unlike other herding breeds, do not tend to roam or fight. They have a calm demeanor and are quite agile, despite their bulky appearance, and are easily trained as retrievers, as well as herders. Don't assume that Old English sheepdogs can't live in warm climates—their furry coat actually insulates against cold and heat.
6. Alaskan Malamute
Malamutes are friendly and intelligent, but can also be strong-willed, so they need firm training and discipline. Their athleticism makes malamutes excellent companions for backpacking, jogging, and swimming, but it also means that daily exercise is a must. Oh, did we mention that thick coat? So. Fluffy.
5. Great Pyrenees
Today, the Pyr is a beloved companion and guardian. Although most never see sheep or a show ring, they are nonetheless as loved as ever and are gaining recognition in many other fields, such as rescue and therapy, due to their intelligence and versatility. So white and fluffy!
4. Saint Bernard
Though the breed is incredibly large in stature, they very kind once you get to know them. These gentle giants have been known to carry a friendly smile as a result of their wrinkled brow. Saint Bernards benefit tremendously from training classes as these dogs can knock people over, especially children. Kind and with big hearts, Saints learn quickly to respond to commands and obey their humans.
3. Chow Chow
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), Chow Chows, from ancient China, stand high at a near 20 inches. Known for their recognizable lion mane, they can have rough and smooth coats — Fluffy coat colors include red, black, cinnamon, and cream-colored. Some owners mention that Chow Chows don't require a lot of exercise and are extremely well-mannered.
2. Newfoundland
Known for its sweet temperament, the Newfoundland (affectionately called the Newfie, or Newf) is a true working dog. This fluffy dog breed is a great swimmer, rescue dog, and family dog. And, these family pets makes quite an impression strolling down the sidewalk, thanks to its beautiful fluff and size.
The Newfoundland can make a great addition to most families, as long as you're prepared for the care that this big dog. Super fluffy!
1. Golden Retriever
Goldens are known to be an emotionally intelligent pooch; many Golden Retriever owners will tell you that they seem to know exactly how to comfort them. Part of that intuition is what makes them good service and guide dogs.
Golden Retrievers are America's third most popular dog breed behind Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds. They make great family dogs due to their desire to please, agreeable nature and due to their fluffiness.
Other fluffy dog breeds to consider? What about Collies, Maltese, Terriers, Shetland Sheepdogs, Bearded Collie, Keeshond, American Eskimo dogs, Havanese, Eskies, and Spitz! You can make an argument for all these breeds.
