How to Make Ground Venison Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

It's just like what you remember as a child, only a little more grown up.

Recently, my two-year-old son realized how much he loves sloppy joes. Because of this, we've been eating more sloppy joes than we care to eat. It's fair to say my kid has definitely developed a taste for venison, too. So today, we decided to mix things up bit. These ground venison cheesesteak sloppy joes are just as easy to make as the originals, but they taste incredible.

Make enough to be able to bust out the Tupperware.

Ground Venison Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground venison
  • Diced onions and green peppers
  • Diced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon of corn starch
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • Butter to coat the pan while cooking the veggies
  • Salt, pepper, ketchup to taste
  • 1 package of provolone cheese

To get this recipe started, simply brown the venison, drain and set aside. Now, add the butter to the hot pan until melted, then add in all the diced onions, peppers and mushrooms. We used one whole green pepper, one whole red onion, and one whole package of sliced mushrooms. Cook this mixture until the onions start to run clear and the mushrooms release their moisture.

Now, add the ground venison back and stir while mixing in a small amount of ketchup for taste along with salt and pepper. From here, mix the beef broth and corn starch together until blended and pour this into the meat mixture. Top it all off with as much provolone cheese as you desire. We used six whole, round slices right out of the package. Just place the cheese in the mixture, melt it, and stir it all together. You'll find the beef broth and corn starch mixture will create a very creamy sauce.

I have to say, my kid loved this. So did my wife. As easy as it comes together, this dish could break into your weekly rotation pretty fast.
