There are a lot of great horse movies out there.
So many, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of them all. Wouldn't it be great if there were a list of horse movies somewhere that contained everything from the the classic "Black Beauty" to the latest documentaries like "Harry And Snowman," and everything in between?
As it turns out, there is. The website Horse Crazy Girls has a page dedicated to exactly that: an alphabetical list of horse movies, from the blockbuster hits to the little-known low budget films.
Clicking a movie title takes you to a cover image, a summary of the film, and reviews from readers, as well as a link to where you can purchase the film on Amazon.
You've probably heard of "Seabiscuit," "Hidalgo," "Dreamer" and "National Velvet," but here are a couple horse-related movies that made the list that you may not have seen:
"The Silver Stallion"
Deep in the Australian outback lives an elusive wild brumby (wild horse in Australia) called Thowra. For years he has eluded ranchers, but one man (played by Russell Crowe) will stop at nothing to capture him.
"The Last Unicorn"
While this animated film is technically about a unicorn, not a horse, it makes the list. The story centers around a unicorn (voiced by Mia Farrow) who finds out she may be the last of her kind, and sets out on a journey to find out the truth and rescue her kin.
"Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken"
This old Disney movie tells the true story of Sonora Webster, a runaway orphan who joined a traveling stunt show and dreamed of becoming a death-defying diving girl — diving off of a pier on horseback. But a cruel twist of fate threatens her dream, and she must prove that her own determination and trust in her horse is enough to carry the young girl through.
"Two Bits & Pepper"
When two horse-loving girls get kidnapped, their horses, Two Bits and Pepper, are on the trail to find them in this delightful equine tale.
You can access the full list of best horse movies here. The best part about it? If your favorite horse movie isn't already listed, you have the option to add it yourself. You may even know some different favorites than classics like the "Flicka" series, "Secretariat," "Moondance Alexander," and Virginia's Run."
Happy watching! After all, if you can't currently be riding a horse, the next best thing for horse lovers is watching them on the big screen!
