Officials say a hiker died at Scout Lookout in Zion National Park on Monday. According to a news release, the hiker, identified as a man of an unknown age, was found unresponsive.
Ranger working at the location performed CPR until additional rangers arrived with medical equipment. Then, they continued treating the man for about 90 minutes at which time a doctor pronounced him dead.
Due to the incident, officials had to temporarily close the West Rim, but it's now reopened. According to the release, the Park Service along with local authorities are still investigating the incident.
Back in January, Scout Lookout was the site of another incident in which a hiker was found unresponsive and later died. The Park Service said the victim was a 63-year-old man from San Diego.
Scout Lookout via the West Rim Trail is the closest you can get to the famous Angel's Landing trail without a permit. According to a description by the Park Service, hiking to Scout Lookout takes approximately three to four hours and it ascends a "strenuous" 1,000 feet.
