Hot Wheels Brings Back Classics for 50th Anniversary

This year the world's biggest carmaker, Hot Wheels, is celebrating 50 years of making its tiny versions of diecast joy.

One of the many ways it's marking the anniversary is by reproducing several of the original cars it first produced back in 1968.

Of course, the very first Hot Wheel ever made, the 1967 Camaro, is among the cars available in retro packaging. It's joined by the Volkswagen Beetle, the '67 Mustang, '67 Hemi Cuda, and the '68 Cougar.

Collectors know the early Hot Wheels as redlines because of the red lines on the wheels. This year's reproductions bring back the old-wheel look as well.

Also sure to stoke nostalgia is the chromatic paint jobs on the cars. Back in 1968, the magical, sparkling colors (known as Spectraflame) were achieved with lead-based paint. But we're sure Mattel found a much healthier version for the remakes.

One lucky Hot Wheel fan will also win a 2018 Chevy Hot Wheels Anniversary Camaro.

Mattel says the 50th Originals Collection is available "widely," so be on the lookout.
