Houston cat lovers have spoken, and they're finally getting what they want.
El Gato Coffee House in Houston, Texas is a place where cats and coffee make the perfect combination. As the city's first cat cafe, El Gato is modeled after other successful cat cafes all across the United States. It's where people come to sip coffee and pet cats, and more importantly, it's where rescue cats meet people and find forever homes.

All the cats found lounging on pillows and playing with toys inside the cat cafe were rescued by the Houston Humane Society. Some of them were found as stray kittens while others were dropped off by owners who no longer wanted them.
Regardless of their backgrounds, all cats transferred from the shelter to El Gato enjoy time away from the stressful shelter environment.

At the cafe, cats enjoy a relaxed environment where they're free to socialize or be on their own. The cat lounge is designed specifically for kitty comfort and is full of stimulating cat toys and cozy beds.
For the humans that come to visit, there's plenty of room to spread out, sip coffee, and spend time with cute cats. The feline-themed decor and available cat swag for purchase isn't bad either. They also offer fun events like Cats on Mats, which is cat yoga, Paint with Cats, Caturday morning cartoons, and a cat book club!
Every sweet furry friend in the cafe is available for adoption, besides a few resident cats, and the goal is for the human coffee drinkers to fall in love and want to take them home. So far, the plan is working.

While the cafe has been officially open for a few months, they recently celebrated a major milestone. They reached 108 cat adoptions, and they threw a party this past weekend to thank everyone who made it possible.
Houston's cat lovers have come out in droves to support the cafe's mission and help rescue cats in every way they can. Whether they come in ready to adopt a new cat or simply stop by to offer love and head scratches, every visitor is helping El Gato make a positive difference for animal welfare.

El Gato is open Tuesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with extended hours on weekends. Weekends and holidays get busy, and it's always best to book online.
