If recent developments out of the Humminbird camp mean anything, anglers of every kind will soon be even more capable of homing in on the areas they know hold fish, and finding success through full boat control and sophisticated underwater imagery.
Humminbird's new TargetLock allows anglers to lock the MEGA Live beam in the direction of underwater structure, so even when the boat moves, the MEGA Live view stays fixed in that direction.
TargetLock essentially solves a big issue with two other fishing innovations, Humminbird's MEGA Live Imaging and Minn Kota's Spot Lock, which holds a boat in place using its trolling motor. It's deployed with an independently-mounted accessory, separate from the trolling motor shaft, allowing for full use of the trolling motor in conjunction with MEGA Live. Previously, each feature could only be used independently, and not at the same time. Now, with an assist from TargetLock, even the strongest winds or currents won't affect the setup.
Pro anglers are already putting TargetLock to good use, including Kevin VanDam and Carl Jocumsen, who have both complemented the new feature with real world proof that it can be a big benefit.
Control of TargetLock can be executed a number of ways: the included MEGA Live foot pedal, the trolling motor foot pedal using the Minn Kota Steer feature (which calls for a motor using the i-Pilot Link), a Humminbird fish finder, or from an optional hand remote that's sold separately. The versatility of controls meshes well with the objective behind Humminbird and Minn Kota's One-Boat Network. Integrating all of these tools together and an ease-of-use factor was an important function, and the products are proving valuable well beyond what yesterday's anglers could ever imagine.
Now that fish and structure can be so easily seen in conjunction with full control of a boat via the trolling motor, the possibilities of executing the perfect cast and watching real time underwater images in the process is a cinch.
TargetLock is exclusively compatible with Minn Kota Ultrex 45-inch and 52-inch trolling motors, and all APEX, SOLIX, and HELIX 8-12 G3N & HELIX 7-15 G4N control head models (they must be MEGA Side Imaging or MEGA Down Imaging models to work properly). It comes with a price tag of $2,999.99.
