Snakeheads are just one strange fish. Ugly and invasive, but we hear they might be absolutely delicious.
The snakehead! It seems this fish has gained a ton of popularity over the last decade as it has more predominately found a home in U.S. waters. They are almost scary looking because of how strange their appearance is and they are also capable of breathing air with their gills. Which gives them a sci-fi feel to their existence.
Capable of surviving up to four days out of water, the snakehead is not your typical fish. And the fact that it has "snake" in its name makes people very wary of them. Because they aren't native to U.S. waters and they have no natural predators here, they cause damage to our ecological system, which makes them an invasive species.
Being from the Midwest, I have never saw or caught one, but I always had a negative connotation in my mind that they are a very nasty fish, and I would have never even thought about eating one.
And according to this video and hundreds of others, that is not the case.
I was wrongly mistaken, as the snakehead is actually delicious according to those who have tried it.
Just goes to show you, you don't judge a book by the cover. Hopefully sometime in the future I can try this delicacy for myself.
