Pucker up and decide if you would stand by and watch your child suck on a carp.
In the annals of history, you may not find a more adorable and alternately gross piece of footage. Somebody putting a carp in a kiddie pool is one thing, but standing by while they let their kid get his share of fish lips... could be quite another.
Watch and decide if you think it's no big deal or if the parents should be slapped upside the head.
Here's the video:
The CDC says:
"Like all animals, fish may carry germs that make people sick. These germs can also contaminate the water in which fish live. Although fish and aquarium water can spread germs to people, illness due to keeping fish is rare."
That's really information meant for people who keep aquarium fish, but what about something a little more substantial like a carp? Well, there's this thing called Mycobacterium marine about which Medicinenet says,
"Human infections with M. marinum under normal circumstances are rare. People are prone to this infection when there is minor trauma to an extremity like the forearm before or during contact with marine animals like fish or turtles, or just an aquarium, saltwater or freshwater."
Okay, how about a young child attaching his lips to a carp?
