All that hard work from Tesla might be squashed with the release of the new Jaguar I-Pace SUV.
When it comes to high-end electric vehicles, the word Tesla seems to be synonymous. While that might be so, other car companies are trying to get their foot in the door as competition for the Silicon Valley based car tech company. One of those is Jaguar, aith its release of the new I-Pace SUV, a clear competitor to Tesla.
The Jaguar I-Pace made its debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. Since then it's been creeping along at every major auto show, like it's teasing Tesla. Pricing for the new electric SUV in the U.S. starts out at $69,500, undercutting Tesla's Model X. According to Ars Technica, the Jaguar I-Pace takes elements from the CX-75 hybrid hypercar and the F-Pace SUVs.
The big get for the Jaguar I-Pace's design is a relatively low drag coefficient. Designers wanted to focus on minimizing drag, and the air suspension will lower it by .4 inches to help things. The thermal management strategy installed uses active heating when cold. It's basically what all electric cars have strived for.
Tesla? What Tesla?
The Jaguar I-Pace is definitely aiming its guns for the audience Tesla's trying to reach. It has a 90 kilowatt battery pack and 432 nickel manganese Kobalt lithium ion cells. the range for one charge is about 240 miles. one charge takes about 45 minutes. traditional 7 kilowatt chargers should take about 13 hours to completely charge. But that's if the battery is completely depleted.
The Jaguar I-Pace is a twin motor design; each motor is rated at 147 kilowatt and 350Nm. The I-Pace will hit 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds before typing out of 124 miles an hour. Recently Jaguar arranged a 0 to 60 miles per hour drag race between the I-Pace and two Tesla Model X's. See the video below.
