Late-night comedian Jay Leno, one of the most prolific car collectors in history, has shared his thoughts on the future of self-driving cars and automotive technology.
In an interview with CNBC's Make It, he describes human behavior and its resistance to new technologies, using anti-lock brakes and heart transplants as examples of breakthrough that meet initial resistance before becoming widely accepted to the point of being a necessity.
"It's not like all of a sudden people flip over to self-driving cars," noted Leno. "But it's the same thing that happened when anti-lock brakes came out: People said, 'I don't want some computer doing the braking in my car. I want to step on my car.'"
Or power steering: "I like to feel the road. I'm not going to get power steering," he added. "Well, all these things eventually become — well, they just get adapted to cars and you sort of move on."
Other subjects Leno touched upon in his interview is his thoughts on Tesla and his 20-year prediction for the extinction of ignition keys.
