Jerry Miculek Leads a Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Hornady's Nebraska Ammo Plant

Jerry Miculek gives a rare, behind-the-scenes peek of Hornady ammo being made.

Normally when we share a Jerry Miculek video here on Wide Open Spaces, it is one of him pulling off some incredible shooting feat. Maybe he's firing off six rounds from a Barrett .50 BMG in seconds or making a 300+ yard shot with a shotgun slug.

Today's video is a little different. Every pro shooter needs lots of ammo because practice makes perfect. That's probably why Jerry is off the range for a change and is instead visiting a Hornady manufacturing facility in Grand Island, Nebraska. Yep, Hornady still makes ammo here in the United States with American workers.

Watch as he takes his viewers behind the scenes of these very clean and organized facilities. Along the way, we get an in-depth look at some of Hornady's extensive quality control procedures. It's a fascinating look at how the ammo goes from the factory to the shelf of your favorite gun store.

Who says nothing is made with pride here in the U.S.A. anymore? Although we had to laugh a little bit at Jerry's "visitor" name tag in this video. He's Jerry Miculek! The staff of the facility didn't immediately recognize him at the door as probably their bust customer ever? We are now curious how quickly he could shoot all the ammo in this facility.

Now that we think about it, this whole facility might last Jerry a few days, maybe a week if he held back on the speed shooting for a bit.

The process of manufacturing ammo is fascinating and much more involved than many shooters consider while out on the range dumping mags down range. While machines play a vital part in the process of shaping the bullets, seating the primers and building the casings, only humans can do the quality inspections and testing that Hornady is known for.
