Jon Stewart's Farm Sanctuary All Began with Two Rescue Pigs

Two rescued pigs were welcomed into Jon Stewart's family last year, and now the farm animal sanctuary in New Jersey can't stop growing.

Home on the range for Jon and Tracey Stewart is full of rescued farm animals, including two lovable pigs that run a Twitter account called "The Daily Squeal."

Anna and Maybelle were rescued on July 6, 2015 from a swine factory truck when the two fell off cargo load during transfer. Farm Sanctuary, the leading farm animal rescue organization, immediately took in the pigs. Now, the porcine pair have found a forever home with the Stewart duo.

In May, the Stewarts adopted a horse that was brutally pelleted with paintballs. Sadly, the horse died at the end of June.

The Stewart's farmland in New Jersey is the fourth heartland rescue to team up with Farm Sanctuary. Anna and Maybelle, then piglets, were the first animals the Stewarts took in. After that, the New Jersey home quickly grew into the farm sanctuary it is today. And it's only continuing to grow!

The sanctuary's grand opening is set to debut in 2017.

Did you know?

  • In October 2015, the Stewarts were also the recipient of the Gift of Life Award, which is presented to individuals who promote compassion for farm animals. In January 2017, the pair received official approval from the town of Colts Neck to convert the 45-acre Hockhockson Farm into the new sanctuary.
  • Tracey, a longtime vegan, serves as a member of Farm Sanctuary's Education and Communications Committees and is also the author of the book "Do Unto Animals: A Friendly Guide to How Animals Live, and How We Can Make Their Lives Better."
  • In 2015, Jon revealed that he had adopted a vegetarian diet for ethical reasons, however, many speculate that he eats plant-based frequently. In November 2017, he and Tracey sent a selection of vegan cakes from renowned Pennsylvania-based plant-based bakery Vegan Treats to the hosts of "The View" following a dispute over whether or not desserts could taste good without animal products.

We're so glad that Jon Stewart left the Daily Show only to become a devout farm animal advocate! With wife Tracey, these two will change the world! A farm animal in the eyes of comedian Jon Stewart is worth saving! Animal care and animal protection are a priority!
