These fish never stood a chance against the four illegal Mexican fishermen!
Since October 2016 the United States Coast Guard has been involved in more that 100 lanchas fishing illegally in Texas waters and have managed to capture 28 of them. However, one specific lancha and its fish stand out amongst the rest.
KRISTV reported earlier this week that a group of four Mexican fishermen were stopped while illegally fishing the waters off the costa of Texas. Upon further inspection of the vessel over 1,300 pounds of fish was found. The catch included 43 red snapper, 117 sharks and five other unspecified species.
Needless to say, the authorities detained the fishermen and their catch. The four fishermen were later transferred over to the border patrol agents for processing and likely deportation.
It is estimated that the illegal fishing of red snapper costs U.S. commercial fishermen over $11 million a year.
"Deterring illegal fishing and other illicit activity near the U.S./Mexico maritime boundary line is one of our top priorities," says Cmdr. Keith Pierre, the Chief of Response at Station Corpus Christi.
