Kia Plans Three-Row SUV Crossover

Kia sees big opportunity in the SUV crossover market as the company's head of design Peter Schreyer confirms plans to build a three-row sport utility.

The big SUV will be based on Kia's Telluride concept from the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Pictured here, the Telluride clearly targets Volvo, Land Rover and Toyota's Land Cruiser as competition.

While the concept was shown with a 400hp V6 hybrid powertrain, Schreyer gave no indication of what might propel the production model.

However, if Kia does, in fact, intend to target Land Rover, expect the concept's sumptuous, leather-clad interior to carry over. The suicide doors and back seat lounge chairs are a bit more iffy.

Can we expect the Telluride to appear in U.S. showrooms? By taking a name from a Colorado ski-town, we'd say it's highly likely you'll see this upmarket SUV for sale near you soon.
