Leopard Leaping After Bird Nearly Lands in Vehicle Full of Tourists

Talk about an in-your-face safari! Watch as a seemingly innocent drive down a dusty road turns into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

There is always something interesting to see when out on a sight-seeing safari in South Africa. Keep your head on a swivel, because one never knows when the next wildlife encounter is going to happen. Sometimes, an encounter only lasts a few seconds, but makes for a great lifetime memory.

This is what happened to the tourists in this vehicle who are simply rolling down the road with their guide in front of a bunch of Guinea fowl. It turns out, something else is watching the truck and fowl approach from a distance. Something that gives the group quite a momentary heart-racing moment.

The group was traveling in Londolozi, near the Greater Kruger National Park, when an unexpected encounter with a leopard happens right in the middle of the roadway.

Talk about a leaping leopard! Fortunately for this flock of Guinea fowl, they took flight just in the nick of time. Had that leopard's jump been timed just a split second later, and slightly higher, the big cat probably would have ended up in the vehicle. Which would not have been a good thing for the cat or the tourists who were just looking to see some wild animals from afar. Leopards are capable of pulling off some truly outstanding leaps when they want to pursue dinner. We just feel fortunate the timing for this one was off.

This just goes to show there truly is never a dull time when visiting any of the popular National Parks in South Africa. Keep your camera ready at all times because one just never knows what they may see while on safari.

So, who's ready to go to South Africa?
