Pursuing big bucks with a longbow is about as difficult as it gets.
In the world of whitetail hunting, many people seek to make their hunting easier using the latest in technology. The archery industry has helped contribute to this by making it simpler than ever for people to get into hunting with a stick and string thanks to new developments that make bows faster and quieter than ever before.
While we appreciate giving hunters better access these days, there is something to be said for taking on the challenge of traditional gear. Which is what Gabe VanWormer of Full Quiver Outdoors is doing in this hunt in Kansas. It doesn't get much harder than taking down a big buck with a longbow.
Yet that is exactly what Gabe challenges himself to do, and it ends up being an incredibly exciting hunt that ends on the first day of his trip!
Well, it doesn't get much better than that. We were surprised with how far and long the buck went running considering it looked like a double lung hit. The grit and determination of these animals to live never ceases to amaze us. This may have been a hunt that ended on day one, but we cannot blame Gabe for not wanting to pass this buck up.
Especially with that warmer weather that was in the forecast for later in the hunt. No one wants to be sweating in the deer stand. Especially since that will often put a huge damper on the deer activity. Sometimes it's preferable for the hunt to be a short one!
It probably took a lot of time on the practice range to prepare for this hunt because the difficulty curve for a longbow is considerably higher than a compound or recurve. Congratulations to Gabe on an excellent buck and an incredible shot to harvest an animal like this with a longbow.
