Making Bamboo Fly Rods is a Fine Art and Craft That Takes a Ton of Patience

This Arizona man is featured making bamboo fly rods for very select customers as he only produces a handful each year.

Arizona Game and Fish takes us to a small cottage industry where the making of bamboo fly rods is a high art. And with only a handful produced a year, they are something very special.

Now that truly is a labour of love to spend 100s of hours on each rod. Bamboo is truly the "old school" natural material for fly rods. Now largely replaced by graphite, there are still a few die-hards who love the feel of a light bamboo fly rod on their favorite rivers.

I have a few fine rods, but one day I will invest in a bamboo rod, as it will allow me to connect back to the golden age of fly fishing in North America.
