ABC Action News reported that this 75-year-old man from Florida fought off an alligator after it came out of a pond behind his home. The gator grabbed his daughter's golden retriever as he was pet sitting Osi!
Thank goodness the golden retriever, Osi was large enough that this ended well. If this had been a small breed I'm not sure what would have happened! This alligator is huge! The man is a pretty remarkable guy given the alligator could have taken his leg off with one bite.
The dog had a halter on him, and Buddy Ackerman tugged the alligator and then started kicking the gator's snout, it opened its mouth wide and backed up. This dog was so lucky!
Ackerman called the Fish and Wildlife who arrived the next day and trapped the gator. They successfully removed it from the pond. This story was a segment with ABC News.
Ackerman confirmed that the gator was pretty aggressive.
This 75-year-old Florida man saved his dog's life! If this dog had been a doxie or a Pekingese this would not have ended well. I cannot imagine but would do everything I could to save my dog's life. I think adrenaline would just take over.
