A Los Angeles man had enough guns to supply a small army.
On May 19, 2019, authorities seized more than 1,000 firearms, which included an especially wide variety of rifles, shotguns and handguns, from a man's home in Los Angeles' Holmby Hills neighborhood just northeast of UCLA.
The Los Angeles police and ATF agents executed a search warrant the Los Angeles Police Department obtained after receiving a tip of a man illegally manufacturing and selling weapons out of his home.
The man has since been identified as Girard Damien Saenz, and will likely be booked for unlawful transportation, giving, lending or selling an assault weapon. Additional charges are still pending further investigation.
Upon entering the home, authorities found weapons stacked everywhere, with several rooms being completely cluttered with guns and ammunition.
"I had never seen so many weapons in my career of 31 years," LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez told ABC7.com. "That's such a big arsenal in a residence like this, in this type of neighborhood. It's astounding."
After spending most of the day documenting all the weapons, officials said the collection was very diverse, featuring several guns that dated all the way back to the Civil War.
While selling weapons without following state and federal protocol is illegal, owning a gun collection as shockingly large as this is completely lawful. However, neighbors voiced their uneasiness about knowing so many guns were in their neighborhood.
"I would never, ever think anybody would be wanting to pack so much in this neighborhood. It scares the wits out of you," Rabbi Chaim Mentz said. "What does my next-door neighbor have? What does your next-door neighbor have?"
