Michigan Man Charged After Catching 111 Panfish for 'Family Reunion' Dinner

We're guessing this guy has a pretty big family!

A Michigan man has been charged by the Department of Natural Resources for keeping 111 panfish, which is 86 fish more than the set limit. The offense took place in June on Houghton Lake in Roscommon County, when two officers with the DNR conducted a late-evening patrol.

The angler was spotted anchored in a boat offshore, acting suspiciously, with another boat close by. Upon searching the boat, officers found the livewell filled with panfish, as well as a concealed ice cream pail filled with more. In total, 40 panfish were found. The angler told officers the 'extra' fish belonged to his friends in the adjacent boat, which was discovered to be untrue.

Upon further investigation, a large cooler in the man's vehicle was found to contain 71 panfish, which the angler confessed to catching earlier in the day. Upon questioning, the man explained he had planned on serving the fish at his next family reunion dinner.

The man was given a citation and 86 panfish were forfeited to the DNR.
