Mossberg has a new President and CEO.
North Haven, Connecticut-based American firearms manufacturer Mossberg, famous for their popular pump-action shotguns like the Mossberg 500, has just announced a change at the top. The news comes just a few months after one of the oldest family names in the firearms industry celebrated their 100th anniversary.
Douglas Bell was announced as the manufacturing company's new President and Chief Operating Officer earlier this month.
It's a promotion for Bell, who has served as Vice President of Operations with Mossberg since 2017. In the position he'll be reporting directly to Chief Executive Officer Iver Mossberg.
Bell's resume before entering the gun industry with Mossberg is plenty impressive. His previous experience includes management positions with Sumitomo Electric Corp, Assa Abloy, Inc. and Danaher Corp.
He is also highly educated for the position. Bell holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. Bell also earned a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and a Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
It sounds as if the company is certain they have their man. A press release highly praised Bell for his two year track record with the company already.
"We look forward to having Doug apply his proven management techniques across all aspects of the Mossberg company," Iver Mossberg said in the release. "Doug's outstanding leadership and deep understanding of modern manufacturing processes will be instrumental in aligning Mossberg to meet the present and future requirements of the sporting goods marketplace."
The company O.F. Mossberg, founded in 1919, has long been known for their great deer and turkey hunting guns. They've recently been diving into the home defense market with guns like the 590 M Shockwave, which was an instant hit. But the company has been making strides with shooting sports enthusiasts and law enforcement for their handguns, bolt, semi and lever-action rifles in recent years, too. Guns like the MMR Pro are proving to be quite popular with competition shooters.
We're not sure what new innovations and new firearms this new appointment will mean for one of America's oldest family-owned gun makers, but we'll certainly be watching Mossberg's operations with interest in the coming months to see what new firearms they bring to the range.
