Action star Vin Diesel is teaming up with Netflix to bring an animated version of the "Fast and Furious" series to the digital screen.
The first production under its partnership with DreamWorks Animation Television and Universal Pictures, the new series will feature young Tony Toretto and friends turned government agency recruits focused on destroying an evil crime syndicate.
Its executive producers are Jim Hedrick and Bret Haaland, who has worked on other DreamWorks' animated series, with Vin Diesel as one of three executive producers.
"We are thrilled to take our fantastic partnership with DreamWorks Animation to the next level with new opportunities from the vast library of Universal Pictures," said Netflix VP Melissa Cobb in a statement. "The Fast and the Furious franchise is a global phenomenon beloved by audiences of all ages, and we can't wait to get started on the new animated series that will capture the action, heart, humor and global appeal of the feature films."
Netflix's five-year deal with DWA has worked on 14 original titles to date, including popular titles All Hail King Julien and Spirit Riding Free. To date, the wildly popular Fast and the Furious is on its eighth title, grossing over 4 billion dollars with the next installment hitting theaters next year.
