A northern pike state record doesn't come easy.
The Outdoor Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee has officially recognized a new northern pike state record. Weighing in 22.78 pounds, Troy Klingler of Stryker, Ohio set hooks into the big fish out of McKarns Lake. However, catching this fish was no small feat.
Measuring out to 45 inches long with a girth of 19 inches, it was caught on 12-pound mono tied to a Berkley Crazy Legs for bait.
As it was reported, the previous Ohio northern pike state record was caught back in 1988. That fish was 43 inches long and weighed in at 22.38 pounds. As you can see, Klinger's fish barely took the top spot.
If the time between these two record fish is any indication, Klingler's record pike is probably going to be the fish to beat for quite some time to come.
