Chalk up another big poaching bust for the Oklahoma Game Wardens.
In the latest successful bust for the Oklahoma Game Wardens, authorities busted anglers using an illegal gill net in Mayes County.
It happened below Kerr Dam, and wardens were alerted to the situation by a citizen who called in some suspicious behavior. Wardens Monte Reid and Kody Moore responded and caught the poachers red-handed.
Gill nets are illegal state-wide in Oklahoma. The poachers were found to not only be taking game fish, but non-game fish, too. To top the whole incident off, they were netting in a closed area.
The wardens issued unspecified citations in the incident. They also took the time to thank the citizen who called in the violations.
This isn't the first time the Oklahoma wardens have busted poachers using gill nets. Last fall wardens caught four men using a gill net on the Illinois River. That case resulted in 12 misdemeanors and $3,600 in fines, as well as court costs for the poachers.
