News of more Tesla truck pre-orders continues to roll in, this time with Pepsi claiming a bunch.
PepsiCo Inc. is jumping headfirst into electrified trucking with a pre-order for 100 Tesla Semis.
The beverage and snack maker's order more than doubles that of Budweiser's request for 40 Tesla trucks. At an estimated $20,000 deposit each, it puts another $2 million in Tesla's coffers.
Pepsi said it's planning routes for the battery-powered trucks now and will probably use them for lighter loads on long hauls and heavier loads on short routes. No word yet on when the company will take delivery or when the 100 Teslas will be incorporated into Pepsi's fleet of 10,000 big rigs.
With Pepsi's 100 trucks, Tesla reaches at least 285 reservations for its new semis. That includes orders from Walmart Stores, J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. and Sysco Corp.
