Father takes shocking and unexpected photo of his son surfing.
A 10-year-old Australian boy has one heck of a photo to share after he unknowingly had a close encounter with what experts are saying was probably a great white shark.
Eden Hasson had no idea there was a shark in the water when his father Chris snapped this photo on Tuesday on Samurai Beach in Port Stephens, Australia.
"He (Eden) saw a shape in the wave and thought it was seaweed and felt something as he went over the top - he got his leg rope caught on something - but thought nothing of it until he saw the photo," Chris Hasson told reporters.
ABC News reports shark researcher Andrew Chin believes the shark was a young great white, but he also noted it appeared to be avoiding the boy's board and not actually hunting.
Still, Chris was quick to alert the other surfers at the beach when he realized what was in the photo. The boy and his siblings were back out surfing later this week.
"If I was on the wave and saw it, I probably would've freaked out and fell off," Eden told a local news station. "I was lucky I didn't fall off."
It seems like sharks are getting caught on film more and more with surfers in recent years. Last June, a photographer captured a great white breaching behind a surfer in Australia.
Back in 2015, pro surfer Mick Fanning had a surprise encounter with a shark that was broadcast on live television during a South African surf competition.
And a camera caught another great white breaching behind surfers in San Francisco last year.
