Rimac Automobili partners with Porsche.

Portion of Rimac Automobili Bought by Porsche

Porsche has acquired a 10 percent stake in Croatian electric supercar company Rimac Automobili.

The partnership with Rimac Automobili will help Porsche expand on its own electrification capabilities, sharing its technology under a developmental contract. The deal did not specify which components, powertrains, or other technologies will be leveraged.

"We feel that Rimac's ideas and approaches are extremely promising, which is why we hope to enter into close collaboration with the company in the form of a development partnership," said Lutz Meschke, finance, and IT board member, in a statement.

Getting Electric

"This partnership now is an important step for Rimac Automobili on our way to becoming a component and system supplier of choice for the industry in electrification, connectivity and the exciting field of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems," said Mate Rimac, founder of Rimac Automobili.

At the moment, Rimac is home to 400 employees, with a separate division named Greyp Bikes that works on electric bicycles. It was founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac, an enterprising entrepreneur, out of his garage, with its nameplates including the Concept One and the four-electric motor C Two featuring 1914 horsepower and a top speed of 256 miles per hour with a 403-mile range.
