This video illustrates why a close call with a rattlesnake is no laughing matter.
Each time we head into the woods, we're faced with a few inherent risks. A slip or fall, finding ourselves lost, or in the most extreme cases, an animal decides to charge.
But depending where you live, sharing the fields and forests with rattlesnakes is a concern that many have to face. And as you'll see in this video, the threat is one to be taken very seriously.
Pops was recently enjoying a day in the turkey woods, set up comfortably at the base of a tree. After getting up and settling back down, much to his surprise (and we're sure complete shock!) he discovered his gun was resting snuggly atop a large timber rattler.
Here's the unbelievable video:
How badly could this have turned out? Well, according to Wikipedia, the timber rattlesnake is potentially one of North America's most dangerous snakes, due to its long fangs, impressive size, and high venom yield.
This video went viral quickly, with many viewers commenting that they believed the snake to be fake, due in part to it not moving or 'flicking' its tongue. In response, a second video was posted to show its authenticity:
Is there a lesson to be learned here? Be cognizant of everything around you at all times when you're out hunting. Luckily for Pops, he was given the chance to tell (and show) this incredible tale.
Take care in the woods this season.
