We have to hand it to the folks at Rumpl for coming up with one great name for a camping, hiking, and general outdoor blanket that it refers to as the NanoLoft Flame Blanket. Sure, it's warm as heck, but it is made to resist the fires of the campfire, fire pit, fireplace, or any other open flame within reason. Perfect, right?! This NanoLoft blanket is small enough when packed that you can hold it with just two fingers, and yet it's more than large enough (38" x 52") to keep anyone warm. It's made from recycled materials, has 115 grams of insulation, and is machine-washable for those on the go. Let's take a quick look into how Rumpl created these fire-resistant blankets, and share our favorite features, thoughts, and recommendations.
Rumpl NanoLoft Flame Blanket Features
Our favorite features:
- The Rumpl NanoLoft Flame Blanket is the lightweight, durable, even fire-resistant cover we've always wanted for the campfire. It looks great, travels well, and fits in anywhere, indoors or out.
Pros:
- Made of fire-resistant exterior material on the top side
- Easily packable
- Machine-washable
- Uses post-consumer recycled insulation
Cons:
- Lack of size; it's meant for single person use
- Variety of colors; there's currently three
This isn't just a nice blanket for sitting around the campfire, the hunting cabin, or the backyard fire pit; there's a little more to it than that. The face side of the Rumpl NanoLoft Flame Blanket passes the ISO 15025 for 2016 standard for protection against open flame, where you and I always seem to get those infuriating burn holes and spark damage. Just remember: Fire-resistant does not mean fireproof. It offers a 100% post-consumer recycled proprietary insulation (NanoLoft), which is made up of tiny clusters of fiber that mimic the properties of down. And speaking of recycled material, these blankets are manufactured with the material from 12 recycled plastic water bottles.
The Rumpl Flame Blanket is made to be water- and stain-resistant too, and it's entirely machine-washable. It has a decent size for almost anyone at just over 3 feet wide by just over 4 feet long, but is really only best-used as a single-person blanket. The built-in cape clip keeps it draped around you hands-free for sitting and chatting while eating or drinking your favorite beverage. They currently only come in Dijon, Crimson, or Deepwater colors, but if they'd slap a football team's logo on there like they do with their Original Puffy Blankets, we're pretty certain they'd sell a lot more.
More About Rumpl
Rumpl has been around for a while, and back in 2019 it made the decision to use only 100% post-consumer recycled materials, a smart move in the mind of anyone who cares about the environment. The brand has used some five million discarded plastic bottles on its way to becoming certified climate-neutral. And in March 2021, Rumpl officially became a certified B Corporation, which means that "Rumpl has proven a commitment to social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability."
Rumpl isn't just about these Flame Blankets, as its lineup includes its number one best seller the original puffy blanket, as well as down blankets, kids blankets, and a line of indoor Sherpa fleece and softwool. There are towels that include five different national parks images, hats, t-shirts, ponchos, dog beds, beer koozies, flasks, and more.
Using the Rumpl Flame Blanket
One nice thing about this blanket is its lightweight design and super warm feel. It's not often that you can choose your spot around the fire without worrying about anything other than where the smoke is coming from. Only one side of these blankets is designed to be fire-resistant, and the outside is the part that resists the flames. The side that goes toward the user is the quilted, shinier side with all the comfort of a down blanket. It is super light, easy to pack and carry, warm for a beautiful summer night, and can supplement your cold weather gear.
As long as you pay a bit of attention to the way it unfolds the first time, you will find it very simple to pack back up. Just be sure to roll it up tight; I found that it slips right back into the carrying bag in seconds if you do it correctly. At the end of the day, outdoorsmen and women want to stay conscious about manufacturing methods that keep the world greener and cleaner. That's how to get the attention of the hikers, campers, and outdoor lovers of the world, and it's something that you just can't fake.
