Rutting Bucks Found Dead in Long Island Sound

These bucks fought a losing battle, then the water ended their lives.

The whitetail rut is a no-holds barred battle for ultimate supremacy. When clashes occur, generally the loser walks away with his tail between his legs. But that isn't always the case.

Antlers getting locked up is a real possibility when two deer decide to scrap. And getting them untangled can often be a lost cause.

Obsessive Fishing Disorder (@fiskeroutdooradventures) posted these images to his Instagram account Oct. 1, which happened to be the first day of deer season.

Went fishing today on the first day of deer season and found this out on the LI Sound. What a waste! #deer #fishing #saltwaterfishing #openingday #buck #whitetail #trophybuck

It's bad enough to lock antlers, but to then die by drowning...well, that's really terrible luck.

It's not easy being a whitetail buck during the rut.
