This is a recipe every deer hunter out there needs to learn.
As hunters, gathering food is our ultimate objective, so getting the most meat out of each harvest is our first and foremost priority.
However, many hunters only know how to prepare the main cuts of meet, and often leave perfectly edible protein. Fortunately for us, we now have an awesome way to prepare venison heart right out in the field.
In this video, MeatEater Wild Foods Contributor Danielle Prewett shows us how to prepare seared venison heart with whiskey butter.

The key to giving this venison heart the best flavor is the mentioned whiskey butter pan sauce and the coffee rub, which is a combination of coffee, brown sugar, salt and pepper.
The beauty of this recipe is the ability to cook it right over a fire with an iron pan.
Once you've let it cook to perfection, you're going to deglaze the pan with about two tablespoons of whiskey and then add two tablespoons of butter.
Once the butter is evenly melted, you can pour it over the meat and add a little more of your coffee rub to get your seasoning just right.
So, the next time you go deer hunting and you find some success, be sure to bring this recipe to deer camp to make use of the heart!
