Most of the time, hunters get one shot at a mature buck on a hunt, if they are lucky. Bucks that get big are usually smart. They understand threats and risks and avoid situations that feel like danger. The buck in this video instead, chose to live on the wild side. After being narrowly missed by an arrow that flew right over the top of him, this buck walked right back to the same spot.
This video from Joe of Michigan Whitetail Pursuit starts out like any other hunting video. The creator talks about his setup, hunting between a food plot and a farmer's field, before we get a glimpse of deer activity. First, a doe and her fawn meander through the food plot grazing. A buck comes into range, Joe takes a shot and misses. A tough loss, but that's how hunting goes. Except, that is not the end of this story.
A few minutes pass and the buck comes back. This gives the hunter another shot opportunity. This time it connects perfectly through the heart of the animal. It's one of those stories that no one would have likely believed had he not captured the entire remarkable hunt on video to share with the world.
Opportunities like this don't come along very often. Fortunately for Joe, the second shot was right on the money. It appears it struck the heart and passed on through before getting stopped at the opposite shoulder. A little bit scary for the hunter to see the arrow fall out like that, but the buck only went 40 yards. He had a moment where he doubted himself, but it was indeed a clean kill shot and the deer was recovered without trouble.
"We found him," he said. "I'm so happy, it's been about three or four years since I've got one with a bow...I'm super pumped. It was nice to shoot one over our food plot over here that we just finished."
