In a new American Automotive Association (AAA) survey, 20 percent of Americans polled expressed interest in purchasing an electric vehicle as their next one.
The main factors include reduced range anxiety, lower maintenance costs, newer safety features, and its environmental impact, with results marking a 15-percent improvement over last year's study.
"Today, electric vehicles have mainstream appeal," said Greg Brannon, AAA's director of automotive engineering. "While concern for the environment is still a major motivator, AAA found U.S. drivers are also attracted to the lower long-term costs and advanced technology features that many of these vehicles offer."
However, one knock continues to involve charging times, with 68 percent of respondents citing 30 minutes or less as acceptable charging time, a spec many public charging platforms cannot accommodate today. Other findings saw women holding more prevailing environmental conscious attitudes than men.
