Using shotguns for home defense is a popular idea.
Some shotguns are better than others for this role.
Here are my personal top five choices for home-defense shotguns.
1. Remington 870 Shotgun
This pump-action shotgun is a proven-dependable weapon used by hunters, military and law enforcement. If you went with the shorter-barrel model, this shotgun would be perfect. It's also now available with a detachable box magazine, known as the Remington 870 DM, for those who prefer that over internal tube magazine loaders. Either way, they're a solid choice for home defense.
2. Mossberg 500 Shotgun
The Mossberg 500 pump-action shotgun also comes in a left-handed version, too. Whether you buy the right- or left-hand versions, the sound of a shotgun pumping and chambering a shell will make any home invader shake with fear. They know what the next sound will be.
3. Benelli M2 Tactical Shotgun
When it comes to home defense, a pistol-grip, semi-automatic shotgun is incredibly easy to put into action. The Benelli M2 Tactical Shotgun is a prime example of this type of weapon. With Ghost Ring Sights and less recoil (due to the operating system), this shotgun gets five stars from this shooter.
4. Stevens 320 Shotgun
The Stevens 320 Shotgun is a budget-friendly shotgun sold by Savage Arms. With a synthetic stock and a pistol grip, this pump-action shotgun is easy on the wallet and hard on an attacker.
