The Big Game is the perfect time to break out the game meats.
Somehow, some way, you're always the one who gets picked to host the Super Bowl party. Or maybe you're the type of person who just enjoys hosting gatherings and getting an opportunity to show off your cooking skills.
Whatever the reason you're gearing up for this Sunday, these Super Bowl appetizer recipes will put the wild game you worked so hard to get to deliciously good use.

1. Venison Cheeseburger Bites
The writer of this recipe says she whipped these up especially for football fans with delightful success, and judging by the look of these tasty bite-sized treats we can see why. Get experimental with your cheeses by using sharp cheddar or maybe even a bleu.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb venison sausage, browned
- 1/2 lb ground venison, browned
- 1 medium sweet onion, caramelized
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning - fresh basil would be great, too
- 2 packages of pre-baked phyllo shells (36 shells)
- 1/2 cup shaved Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced sharp white cheddar cheese
- salt & pepper to taste
2. Venison Sliders
A true American classic, what better way to celebrate the end of football season than with sliders? Make it fun for friends and family by creating a build your own venison burger bar with unique ingredients like grilled pineapple and caramelized onions. It will surely impress any crowd!
Ingredients
- 1 Whole Slice Of Soft White Bread
- ¼ cups Buttermilk, Half And Half, Or Heavy Cream
- 2 cloves Garlic, Grated
- 1 Tablespoon Grated Onion
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 teaspoons Soy Sauce
- ½ teaspoons Ground Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1-½ pound Ground Venison
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil, For Frying
- 24 whole Mini Rolls Purchased Or Homemade

3. Tiger Meat
If you're not familiar with Tiger meat, you're probably not from the Dakotas where this staple dish can 'make or break a meat locker.' Raw eggs are a factor in this recipe, so if that makes you a little bit squeamish then you may want to skip this one and opt for something more like chili.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. Beef (Extra Lean)
- 1 raw egg
- .4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1.2 dashes Tabasco sauce
- .4 medium or .2 large onion
- .6 sticks of celery
- .8 Tbsp black pepper
- .7 Tbsp. of salt
- .1 tsp. Garlic powder
4. Jalapeno Cream Cheese Venison Steak Roll-Ups
If it's stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, packs a punch AND has venison in it, you can bet that whatever it is will go flying off the trays. This recipe for venison jalapeno poppers is simple to follow and yields delicious results. To make spicier, leave some of the seeds and inner flesh intact in the pepper.
Ingredients
- 2 packs of venison cube steak
- 1.5 to 2 packs of bacon (depends on how big of pack you buy)
- 1 tub of cream cheese (an 8 oz block will do the tub is just easier to spread)
- 1 jar of jalapeno strips (rings can be used, that is what is pictured below) Strips get through out the meat better. You can also use fresh if you want to; the jars are much more economical.
5. Bacon-Wrapped Teriyaki Goose Bites
You might be saying to yourself, 'I'm seeing a lot of bacon wrapping on this list,' and you'd be right. There's just something magical about wild game and bacon uniting in a recipe that makes it a staple of party foods. Here we're wrapping goose breast, but duck breast could definitely be another option if you don't have goose on hand.
Ingredients
- 2 boneless, skinless wild goose breasts (about 1 pound)
- 1 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 pound bacon
6. Duck Doughnuts with Apple Honey Sauce
If you're looking for an appetizer that's sure to sear itself into your guests memory, this is the recipe for you. Fluffy doughnuts encase deliciously seasoned duck meat with a sweet sauce to finish it off. We're excited to try it out already.
Ingredients
For the red onion jam:
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 5 oz (W.) Red Onion, julienned
- 1/4 tsp Kosher Salt
- 2 Tbsp Red Wine
- 1 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Honey
- 1/4 tsp Lemon Zest
- 1/2 Tbsp Thyme, chopped
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
For the seared duck breast:
- 1 5-6oz Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breasts
- 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 Tbsp Cooked Bacon, minced
- 1/4 cup Maple Leaf Farms Duck Confit Meat, diced 1/4"
- 1 Tube Store-bought Buttermilk Biscuits (about 10 each)
For the sauce:
- 1/2 cup Granny Smith Apple, peeled and minced
- 2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
- 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Brandy
- 1/4 cup Honey
7. Shredded Elk Sandwiches
There's nothing like a sandwich made with shredded meat and BBQ sauce. It's a little bit cowboy, maybe, but you really can't beat it. This recipe calls for elk, but if you are only currently in possession of a venison roast you could easily sub that in here.
Quick tip: If you'd like to use BBQ sauce you already have on hand, roast the meat with light seasoning and dress with sauce after shredding.

- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard powder
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons celery salt
- 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3 drops hot pepper sauce
- 1 (4 pound) elk roast, cut in half

8. The World's Best Venison Chili
You may or may not have already seen this recipe featured on our site, but we're still pretty confident that this would be a crowd pleaser in any environment, especially a Super Bowl Party. Load it up with roasted baby potatoes for an epic finishing touch.
Ingredients
- ~2.5lbs ground venison with fat added (ideally you want about 18-20% fat)
- .5lbs ground beef, 83/17 or 80/20
- 3 Tbs rendered bacon fat, or canola oil
- 2 green bell peppers, diced
- 2 poblano peppers, diced
- 3 jalapeno peppers, diced
- 3 serrano peppers, minced
- 2-3 habanero peppers, minced (depending on desired heat level)
- 2 yellow onions, diced
- 5 cloves garlic, minced or smashed
- 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
- 16 oz can of diced tomatoes
- 26 oz can of Ranch Style beans, or substitute regular pinto beans
- 2 16 oz cans of black beans, drained
- 1 can tomato paste
- 1 bottle dark ale / beer
- 1 tsp saltB
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 2 - 3 tsp dark chili powder (depending on desired flavor)
- Freshly chopped cilantro, sour cream, and grated cheddar for garnish
