What Does It Take to Penetrate a Titanium Plate?

It's strong and light, but is titanium bulletproof?

Before you go to Google with this question, let's look at a much more fun source of firearms knowledge to answer this question. One of our favorite YouTube Channels, Demolition Ranch.

The target today is a 1 1/4 inch chunk of this lightweight, high-strength metal.

Matt puts this titanium plate through some serious paces starting with a .22 long rifle and various handgun rounds before ending with a .50 BMG. Watch the video to see if this super metal is was able to take the punishment.

So in review, a plate of solid titanium is light, but it will not float on water. It will withstand nearly any hunting or self-defense type round indefinitely, but given enough rounds with a super high-power weapon loaded with armor-piercing bullets, it can be penetrated.

More specifically, Demo Ranch showed here that black tip bullets are going to offer the most penetration for this type of armor plate. Let's face it, 50bmg just isn't that common of a firearm or ammo!

So stop worrying. It sounds like your titanium alloy body armor jumpsuit should keep you safe unless you are facing some extreme resistance.
