Start the countdown to a $25,000 Tesla vehicle.
In an interview with YouTube tech star Marques Brownlee, Musk confirmed the possibility of building a Tesla in that price range.
"Yeah, absolutely. That's something we can do, if we work really hard, I think maybe we can do that in three years," said Musk.
Musk also described the economics of scale as being a challenge, with tons of money diverted to product innovation as opposed to traditional advertising and discounted offers.
"Where I put all the money into and all the attention into is trying to make the product as compelling as possible," added Musk. The key to selling a product is having something people love and will talk about, he added. "If you love it, you're going to talk and that generates word of mouth."
At the moment, Tesla is nowhere close to a $25,000 version. In a May Twitter post, Musk proclaimed shipping the base Model 3 en masse would cause the company to collapse.
Now, how did Marques Brownlee manage to land an interview with the busiest man on Earth?
